The "Ladies" Join the Professions: Trailblazing Women Go to Work!

  • Rock Hall Museum 199 Broadway Lawrence, NY, 11559 (map)

New Lecture!

From the first Labor Unions, organized for and by women, in Lowell, Massachusetts in the 1830s, to the entry of women into traditionally male occupations such as medicine, the ministry and the law, American women of the 19th Century were pioneers in forging a path for the women who followed them into these professions.

In this lecture, we will follow the rise of women in the labor force and hear the unique personal stories of women who were the "first" in their respective professions.  Our guest speaker is Marilyn Foster Nemec, M.A., former professor of Women's Studies & Child Development at San Francisco State University.  Space limited.  Reservations requested.  No Fee.
