Calling all aspiring writers, adults and students alike, to join us as Rock Hall welcomes two very talented authors. Hear them read their works, discuss the creative process and share their writing inspirations.
The presentation recounts the complete history of this national landmark, beginning with the colonial era shipwrecks that prompted the construction of the first lighthouse on Fire Island in 1826. Learn about the present tower (built in 1858), its deactivation by the U.S. Coast Guard and restoration and relighting by the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society. The re-acquisition and displays of the lighthouse's original Fresnel lens, as well as the Society's future plan for bringing back additional artifacts for exhibition, will also be highlighted. Bill Bleyer, is a retired prize-winning staff writer for Long Island's Newsday.
