Andrew Sparberg, retired LIRR manager and current transportation historian, will present an illustrated lecture about the history of the Long Island Rail Road, tracing its 186-year history. The LIRR was born as a stepping-stone for travel between New York and Boston, and over the years has re-invented itself to become the largest commuter railroad in North America.

Mr. Sparberg has spent forty-plus years in the transportation field, including twenty-five working at the LIRR. He has written one book, From a Nickel to a Token, about New York’s subways, edited a second one about the LIRR, Long Island Rail Road, by Stan Fischler, and was a major contributor (and associate editor) of the Encyclopedia of New York City. He has instructed classes at CUNY, St. John’s University, and Nassau Community College about transportation history.

Space is limited. Reservations requested. Fee: $10; $8 seniors. Members free. Sponsored by the Friends of Rock Hall. Check is to be payable to the Friends of Rock Hall.
